Children Scarred beyond repair
Published on August 3, 2006 By Bahu Virupaksha In Current Events
Of the 64 men, women and children who were slaughtered by the Israelis at Qana 37 were children and of the 37, 15 were physically challenged and therefore the refugee party took shelter at Qana for the night. I do not know whether the "embedded" western media has drawn attention to this fact. The roads leading out of Qana had been bombed, the lonf convoys of refugees streaming out of Beirut, Sidon and Tyre have been bombed. Vans carrying choldren have been bombed and in this carnage we have the United Nations taliking of a "political framework" for an "enduring peace". The sentiment against the UN and the aollaborative role it has played with the US and Israel has completely undermined the confidence of the people of the region in the wisdon and fairmindedness of the world body. Even after the Israelis killed 4 of the UNIRIL doldiers the UN did not muster the moral or political strngth to condemn such wanton killing. The Arab world along with the rest of the world will have to collectively withdraw from the UN as protest because the silence of the lambs is only increasing the appetite of the world powers.

Israeli air attacks on the unarmed civilians of southern Lebanon has not been adequately exposed in the West. The bodies of the victims of air raids especially those of children do not show any sighn of injury except puffed lips and a little blood near the eyes and ears. Correspondednts have seen children as young as 7 and 8 with their noses covered with blood dragging their pathetic possessions in plastic bags along the crater strewn roads outside Tyre. One correspondent saw an 8 year old girl badly wounded herself cradling a little baby in her arms and it was clear that the baby was dead. Why? God. Why? Do the Isralis have the licence to kill and maim in such large numbers because two of their soldiers have been kidnapped.. The world is waiting for an answer. The Lebonon Governmnet gives the official figure of the war dead as 828 out of which nealy 300 or 35% are children.

Think of a little boy, Abbas Sha'ito who was travelling in the mini van with his mother and the rest of the family. He and his entire family was injured when the Israelis bombed their van. His uncle and granmother were killed and his mother badly injured. All that the bou could say over and over again,"Dont't leave me mother. Don't go. Don't go". It appears that this woman is now still alive and in intensive care in a hospital, but as the Israelis bomb even hospitals we cannot be sure how long such refugees will live. The there is Samah Shihab, a 8 year olsd gilr whose legs were blown off in the bombing at Tyre. Little children separeted from their parents, wander aimlesslly along the refugee trails outside Beirut and Sidon. The 2 day "humaNITARIAn" ceasefire arranged by the Great Condi Rice saw only 1 truckload of relief material reaching Beirut as the Israelis have bombed all the roads and bridges. I think the world has abandoned the Lebonese and they have to think of their future afresh.

The toll taken of the credibility of the Uited Nations is beyond immediate assessment. Even in the best of time the UN was not very popular and now with the UN standing by when its charter is being torn in the same manner in which the League of Nations was undermined by the Germans, the time has probably come to part company with the UN. Israel is in posseesion of the Shebaa Farm which belongs to Lebanon and how can it insist on the fulfillment of the non binding resolution 1559. Moreover the aquifers in the Shebaa farm region are being exploited by the Israelis.

Will the fighting end soon. Yes. When Israel has exhausted its supply of bombs supplied by its partner the USA. Will there be peace in the region. After this round of fighting the peace in the Middle East has lost all urgency and one more generation of displaced refugees will provide grist to the terror mills of the region.

I can anticipate the reaction. Hizbollah propaganda some will seream. Melodramatic some will say. I have just raised my voice against the infernal war and would like to see peace return to a beautifula and historically important part of this planet.

When was the last time Egypt or Jordan were bombed by the Israelis?

By the way, read some other sources on Qana. I'll bet you this turns out to be another Jenin.

There is a story about an accident.  It seems this bus driver was driving down the street with 5 passengers when he slammed into a car.  The driver called it in to the depot and a wrecker was dispatched along with polilce and rescue squads.  When they arrived on the scene, there were 25 people yelling whiplash on the bus.

Since we already have demonstrable proof of the lies of Hezbollah, I do not trust your figures.  Simply put, once a lile is laid bare, it is hard to beleive anything the liar says.  And we already know that Hezbollah are liars.

you really need to check your so called "facts" even though I know you won,t because it would go against your hatred of Jews.

HIZBOLLAH PROPAGANDA.

Melodramatic.

Wouldn't want to disappoint.

Why are you still saying that this many people died? The huge inflated numbers is just more 'lying for justice' crap; the belief that so long as your cause is just you can lie all you want. According to neutral authorities in Lebanon only 28 or so people were killed, and like 16 of them were kids.

So long as they embrace terrorists who violate the Israeli border and undertake attacks on a sovereign nation, they, as a sovereign nation will have to take responsibility for those actions that they have sanctioned. In the immortal words of Lil John, 'Don't start nothin, there won't be nothin.' Embrace terrorists, offer them sanctuary and free access to commit attacks, elect them to office and call them your 'national resistance', and you'll suffer along with them when the bombs start falling.

To me it looks like the people of Lebanon talk a big show of 'resistance', but when the time comes to answer for it they can't take their lumps. If they are really in the business of 'resistance' they should have expected such. They just want to offer national resources to Hezbollah and then feign ignorance when Israelis die.

The figures are from internationally recognised sources.

This has nothing to do with ones likes and dislikes. We are dealing with a war in which Israel has a stated objective of "degrading " the Hizbollah. I cannot imagine how the killing of civilinas can degrade the Hizbollah. Quite the contrary the Hizbollah has emerged stronger as a consequence of this Israeli misadventure.

And a war in which the Lebanese sponsored Hezbollah's stated objective is to eradicate all of Israel and murder all of it's citizens. Hezbollah hides among the civilians. To kill Hezbollah fighters, some civilians will die. I cannot imagine any way not to kill some civilians as long as Hezbollah uses this cowardly tactic.

Both the Lebanese officials and Human Rights Watch have revised the totals to 28, Bahu. You're obviously keeping the inflated figures to make it more lurid. I've been seeing people say that there were even more kids, most handicapped, yadda yadda. That kind of tactic doesn't make people more sympathetic, it undermines your reliability.

"Investigators for Human Rights Watch said they discovered the apparent discrepancy in the death toll after interviewing witnesses, emergency workers and hospital officials.

The Lebanese Red Cross had reported early on that it had removed 28 bodies from the rubble, said Lucy Mair, a researcher for Human Rights Watch.

"The original 54 number actually came from the fact that one of the survivors was saying, 'We were 63 people from two families camped out in the basement.' They identified only nine living people, and immediately people started doing the subtraction," she said.

But it appears that at least 22 people escaped from the basement, leaving 13 unaccounted for, Human Rights Watch said in a statement. One body may have been buried by family members and not taken to the morgue.

It is no longer clear whether the 13 listed as missing were in the building when it collapsed.

"The rescue teams say they've totally completed their operations and there are only 28 bodies," Mair said.

Officials for the Red Cross and the Lebanese government said they had not revised the official death toll of 54 but were reexamining their figures and expected to have a final tally today." ( - Link )

So less than 30 and not 64. I figure all the losses in Lebanon are inflated that much, frankly, and the way you and others keep inflating the figures in the face of evidence to the contrary it makes me think it even more so. The people who are counting the bodies more often are anti-Israel or even Hezbollah themselves. No doubt there are hundreds of crippled children dying every minute if you listen to them.

This is the strangest justification for mass murder. Israel is occupying Shebaa Farms in defiance of the very UN Resolution that it now proclaims as the legal cover for this war. Israel happens to bre the only country in the world that has not published its official map giving its boundries. It is occupying the territories seizes after the 1967 war. Rhetoric apart, the Arabs have not shown the intelligence nor the capacity to organise the sort of repraisals and collective punishmnet that Israel is inflicting on the Arbs. I am sure the world also recognises that there is a need foor Arabs and Isralis to live in peace. It is for the State of Israel to demonstrate that it can co exist peacefully with its Arab neighbors. The talk of Bush Blair kind of Democracy is unnerving to say the least. Invade, kill with shock and awe tactics , stir up ethnic and sectarian hatred and let civil society disintegrate in a welter of torn mangled flesh like what is happening in Iraq. If this is the solution to the Middle East problem, the Arabs will not accept and the battle will continue.

CNN reported the figure of 64 not 30.

Doesn't make it an accurate figure. CNN also reported the US State Department was blown up on 9/11, too. Hasty reporting, unsubstantiated news on the fly...

And my quote explained why the initial figure of 64 was wrong. I mean, you really think Human Rights Watch is some sort of zionist conspirator, Bahu?

This is exactly what Hizbollah & the Iraqi terrorists are promoting, Bahu. It's not the US or Israeli military causing this. Not a single Iraqi, or Hizbollah terrorist, would be killed as a result of military action if they would stop killing civilians and setting off IED's. It's the height of idiocy to blame everyone except the perpetrators for the violence. They know we'll leave if the violence stops, so it's plain as day that peace is not their objective, because if it were, it could be achieved easily and practically overnight.

In Iraq there was no Terrorism until the USA invaded and set the Shiaas against the Sunnis, promoting a BRAND OF SECTARIAN IDENTITY POLITICS. Let the Americans leave the Middle East to the people of Middle East, then we could have a ray of hope of a new beginning.

I do not think that it is possible to fine tune the count of such horrible atrocities as Qana. Can you put a final figure on the Holocaust. Deniers of the Holocaust say that the figure is quite small, while I will go by the standard Raul Hilberg's Destruction of tbe European Jewery. Many of the bodies were pulped beyond recognition. What you are probably sayuing is the number of bodies that could be identified and given a name. I do not think that the numberss do not matter. I think there will be an international inquiry into the Israeli atrocities against the Arabs. The callous disregard for Arab lives is disconcerting, to say the least.

As in the Hizbullah rocket attacks on Haifa's Arab neighborhood? That what you mean?

BS. The US is the only party trying to unify Iraq. Iran is fomenting the sectarian schism & you know it.

The more you post, the more obvious your pathetic bias becomes.
