USA is in deep trouble
Published on June 23, 2006 By Bahu Virupaksha In Politics
In the bad old days of the Roman Empire, there was a territory that the Romans tried to conquer for nearly 200 years, but never quite succeded. Known as Parthia, this territory roughly corresponds to south western Afghanistan and parts of the Iranian plateau. USA is meeting stiff resistance in exactly the same region and surprisingly for the same reason--imperial overstretch.

While Iraq is getting all the attention, the original war on terror centred on Afghanistan is not receiving adequate coverage. The removal of the Taleban was welcomed all over the world and the USA did have the backing of the world community on that scopre. However the attentiona span of the US Administration was rather short and soon diverted its gaze to Iraq and see what a glorious mess the USA and Iraq are in. Had the Americans and their backers concentrated on AFGHANISTAN then the war on terror would have reached a turning point. By attacking Iraq without any provocation and waging a brutal and reppressive war there, the USA has created a huge propaganda bonnanza for the al-qaeda. In Afghanistan itself the Taliban are ressuregent and in the countryside just ouside the lage cities there are signs of the revival of the Taleban. Just yesterday 4 US marines lost their lives.

The real reason for American failure in Afghanistan is the fact that the USA relies on the word of its client king. Gen Musharaf of Pakistan. He signed on the the war on teror as defined by Bush and the Bushmen rather reluctantly and has been making a show of compliance while all the time the taleban are able to use Pakistani territory in order tro retreat and regroup. There is credible information that bin laden is hiding in ther mountains of North west province. The deep seated tribal loyalties make it difficult for any army to operate there and those familiar with Rudyard Kipling's Kim will understand the reasons.

The war on terror in which the Pakistan Army is an unwilling partner has already led to an insurgency in parts of Baluchistan, a province of Pakistan. In fact the Afghan situation is getting bleak and it is time for the USA to think hard and long about its options. The present ituation is too dangerous for the safety and security of the regiion.

Don't get me wrong, Americans are a great people just like everyone on this planet but they need to realize what their own government is doing to them and the world. Try turning off the TV and reading a book.
Good luck on this one ... does the MSN have any books for them to read?  We are around the 400 billion mark in Afghanistan right now and still progressing with the world view tucked away in some corner where it won’t interfere with the spread of “Freedom and Democracy”.

Yea, we are true to out word yet again. Till the job is done ... and what job would that be?

This clip brings some light to the ‘official story’ of the death of OBL. Think back to the original story … Has anyone interviewed the wife yet? That should be interesting.

you have proved nothing whatsoever

Burden's not on me.  Nice try, though.

Just keep your eyes squeezed shut and your hand tight over your ears and keep screaming LALALALALALALALALALALA. Must be nice to live in the land of fairies and leprechauns.

@BT The one post has 2 of the same video (I think 1 vid/post) and the other post says video not available.

I wonder how many houses those seals raided before finally getting Bin Laden?

I have been looking back through 30 pages of posts on different articles and it seems that "one liners" is just about all the time Daiwa has to spend on his views. Whatever ... don't expect much more I guess.

If we wern't spending militarily aroune the world, we might actually be able to satisfy some real humanitarian efforts. Or is Haiti just another Darfur where there just isn't enough resources there to interest the USG...

If you think you'll succeed in baiting or shaming me in some way, you're thinkin' wrong.  In the interest of saving neurons & synapses, I economize by engaging them in mostly worthwhile pursuits.  Playing your silly game isn't one of them, beyond its entertainment value.

on Jun 06, 2011

I have to agree with BT that I am very open to discussion and Daiwa does not seem to want to offer anything to the discussion. Thanks though Daiwa NitroCruiser for pointing me to the NK article which I most defiantly made an error with pointing to an older post and got me into reading more about the issue which I wish everyone did and had the opportunity to make an unbiased opinion. At the same time though it seem you dont even look at the thoughts or links of others and just keep posting attacks on a negative attitude towards the thread. I am open to any and all discussion about any of opinion links that are posted but I am most against biased propaganda pages like the CFR link that was posted. Remember unbiased links and I will be happy to discuss.

Attacks?  Not by my definition, but YMMV.

And the NK article was cited/offered up by NitroCruiser.  Credit where credit is due.

My main point being one can always find an article/video to support their opinion. While one's favorite search engine might be a start, it's always going to point you to where someone else wants you to go. Drilling down is a bit harder than is seems. Additionally one must get past the penis envy that many folks in other countries hold toward the US, either out right or sub-consciously. It's human nature to want to see the giant diminished somehow, as it makes one feel better about themselves, or a host of other identifiers. Ever see in-depth discussions on any foreign governments on JU? Topics have come up time to time, but never draw much traffic. I don't believe it's due to lack of interest (people should be interested in the world around them), but more lack of relevance to the majority of commenter's.

That has got to be the biggest joke on the planet now with the torpedo under glass. Are they actually serious that a torpedo would split a ship in half but almost the whole torpedo is intact? Also every major event this decade just happens to happen when Americans are conducting military exorcises.

Now your lack of military knowledge is showing (though I didn't suspect you had any). I bet you think it's the explosive (from the torpedo warhead) that sinks a ship? Well, here's a little education for you. It's the rising gas bubble after the explosion that creates a void under the ship and breaks it's keel. A torpedo is basically two parts the warhead and the propulsion system. Just like a bottle rocket often leaves the "tail", in is quite common that large parts of spent torpedoes survive the blast. The surrounding water practically insures that.

Have you ever seen a US MK 46, or an MK 48 ADCAP torpedo? If you have you could never compare what was hauled up as anything but North Korean.  Still funny? Tell you what I find funny, someone that assumes others are as naive on a particular subject as they are. Elitists crack me up.

As for the sinking it happened in disputed waters, nowhere near exercises. And people wonder why there is so much crap on the internet. Thanks for doing you part.

BTW do you believe the Russians would care about Canadian mineral rights in the Arctic (or the Norwegians, for that matter), if CAD didn't have the US as an ally? How about if we (the US) were as powerful as oh lets say a country like... Canada? You have the luxury to "what" a smaller less involved US military. Imagine if you had to pay for a deterrent to defend all that territory (in addition to all the social programs). Nearly a 10th of all able bodied Canadians would have to be in the military. Don't worry a lot of people here complain while holding out their hand too.

How's the postal strike going? Give them a raise all ready. It is "workers of the world unite" right?

Haha, nice how you left out that the US also does not recognize CANs claims. I guess since the US thawed out the North West Passage it is not Canada.

WTF  . Ya its going to cause our government to collapse.

Another  You Tube video (apparently the official source of information for the Canadian left).... it must be true. Post me a CIA caused 9/11 video, I haven't see one in awhile. You know who else liked film? Goebbels. Me, I prefer written info from multiple sources. Much easier to extract the BS.

It's been a long time since the US attacked it's Neighbor. Russia? Well they attacked a neighbor over a lot less territory (Georgia) in 2008. Bet you can't sleep worrying about the coming US invasion.

No just giving Canadians that want to fix the US, without knowing jack shit about certain topics, something simple in their own country to work on. For folks that worry about the US butting in, maybe they should look at themselves.

You know Myfist0, for a liberal you had a few good points in past comments, perhaps you should stick to that material. You're too easily swayed by material you so badly want to believe is true, and while it really highlights your left side, it does little to further your view. I believe the last election in Canada demonstrates that.

There's always Cuba, right?

I have to admit I do get off track into stuff I am not up on but am open to opinion. There is always another story not supplied by the MSM.

That video was made by SOUTH KOREA. Their version of CNN. I do my best showing and knowing sources.

Global warming I am starting to go with the NA side for now. I have read a few stories (did you post them?) that can make you go WTF. I sure as hell am not into some carbon tax. And all that land up there is Crown Land, Canadians will never see a dime of money made up there. Take all the crown land you like, let the British defend it.

Please don't label me.

To me Canada does not have a parliament for the people. It is a PR firm for the Queen. All the guys we get to vote for work for the same boss. Left wing or right wing, it is still the same beast with multiple heads for the parties.

The thread is titled "Situation in Afghanistan", Americans are not military there. If we went off into America be an empire I am pretty sure that is of Global concern where that postal strike in not even a national concern in Canada. You have people pushing nukes into place and your pointing to a water balloon fight.
