The Maliki regime was not known for prudence even in the best of times. The indecent haste with which the former president was hanged and the sordisd manner in which he was killed, no doubt, goes to show the uncivilised and barbaric face of the Maliki regime. It is well known that Blackwater was operating in Iraq in a brazen and cocky manner. The killing of 8 Iraqi civilians in Baghdad was just one of several such episodes in which this private security service was involved in. In fact the entire security of the American Embassy is in the hands of Blackwater and certainly the US troops cannot be spared for the task of security detail. Therefore the question arises: Why has Maliki taken the unwise and politically suicidal step towards downgrading the US presence in Iraq.
The debate in the US over the American presence in Iraq in now moving swiftly toward a resolution. Even President Bush has now virtually acknowledged the untenable nature of US occupation of Iraq by publically stating that troop reductions will start as early as January 2008. Iraq is slowly but surely moving toward a post US and post Maliki regime. The people of Iraq have endured years of suffering, violence, deliberate degradation and humiliation at the hands of the Americans and their quislings like al Maliki. The moment the US leaves, it would have to put the whole "cabinet" of Maliki in a cargo plane and dump them safely out of the reach of avenging angels from the post occupation regime.
