This blog site will deal with issues pertaining to international relations, culture and historical analysis of contemporary events. The recent book, Empire, by Nial Ferguson covers much of the ground that I have in mind this blog site. I cannot help wondering whether the difficulties that Bush and his army faces in the so called Sunni triangle of Iraq was not that much different from what the British faced in 1920-22 when it administered the region as part of the League of Nations mandated territory. Such an analysis by which the present is illuminated with parallels drawn from the past will help in making the discussion of events not only interesting but also insightful.
I am a historian by training and I teach in a University in located in Asia and have lived for several years in the United States and I took my doctoral degree in history from the University of Hawaii.
