Nature's Fury
Published on December 27, 2004 By Bahu Virupaksha In Current Events
On the day after Christmas an earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale struck Sumatra. The epicentre of the quake was 256 km north of Ache. This quake triggered off a wave of tsunami waves that killed tens of thousands in Malaysia,Southern India, Sri Lanka and Thailand. I have not seen anything like this before. A sheer wall of water 30 meters high came crashing on to the coast where I live sweeping everything in its wake. Cars trucks huge buildings came crashing down. The worst of the disaster was felt by coastal communitites who inhabit the coast. Fishermen found their trawlers broken in two. Whole families were swept away. The death toll in the part of the world where I live has now crossed 25,000 and the toll is rising. In this part of Asia the last tsunami wave struck only in 1881 and hence everyone was unprepared for it. The sea receded rapidly for nearly 500 meters and then the surge began. The wave went nearly 2 kilometers inland causing such death and destruction that I have not seen and nature,s fury is so awesome that I wonder why she vent her fury on such hapless folks.

It's a horrible thing to have happened to these people. Especially at this time. I've heard people were actively doing what they do on a daily basis, even vacationers were on the beaches and they all got swept away. It's absolutely horrible.
