THE TRUTH ABOUT DEEP THROAT AT LAST
Published on June 6, 2005 By Bahu Virupaksha In Politics
Any one who seen Robert Redford in his role as the award winning journalist Bob Woodward in the film Watergate would know that the disguised muffled telephonic conversation taken in furtive snatches formed the basis of the expose of the wrong doings of Richard Nixon and hi men. The truth has finally come out: Mark Felt was the Depp Throat. In reality Felt has a crystal clear voice and hence the deep addition to his voice was an affectation to disguise himself. Nixon had passed him over for the Directorship of the FBI and animated by a deep sense of hurt, Felt looked for an opportunity to square with Nixon. The Watergate scandal broke just as Felt thirst for revenge was getting the better of him. Therefore to say that Felt did a great and noble act in betraying his political superior does not make him a hero.

Further, the documents that he passed on to the Washington Post reporters, Woodward and Bernstein, were collected as evixence from grand jury hearings and criminal investigations. Felt had no right nor indeed the public responsibility to make them abvailable to the Press. If Felt felt morally outraged at what was happening he had only two options open to him: confront the President and put on record his misgivings or brief the Congress. Else he could have just resigned. He chose neither of these options. He cultivated a relationship with two pressmen and fed information to which he was privy by virtue of his position. This conduct is deplorable and can by no stretch of the imagination be called patriotic. The reason why Nixon was so easy to fell was because he did not get along with the Media and the Liberals were always calling him names. It is too early fro historians to assess the contribution of Nixon. However, without Watergate he would remain a successful President who quit the White House when his credibility took a turn for the worse. Now there is a President who took the country to war in Iraq on the basis of a total lie and yet Bush and the Bushmen are not as reviled as Nixon, unfortunately was.

The reason Richard Nixon fell is not as simple as you state. It is difficult to blame the liberals and media for something this misguided president did to himself.

Richard Nixon's great fault was letting his paranoia best him and participating in the planning of the Watergate breakin. The capture of the Watergate burglars began the long process resulting in Nixon's resignation in lieu of being impeached for major crimes. These crimes not only included participation in criminal acts, but also the illegal bombing of Cambodia, betraying his oath as President of the United States, illegal bombing of Laos and more. It was not just simply the liberal media calling him names. Nixon was a criminal who resigned in lieu of being impeached to keep his pension and hope to be acclaimed as a elder statesman in the further.

Nixon flirted with treason in 1968 as a presidential candidate who established diplomatic relations with South Vietnam in order to derail the Paris Peace Talks being established by President Lyndon Johnson. As a civilian, it was illegal for any civilian to negotiate with any foreign government, but Nixon was driven by a desire not to be the first American president to lose a war. He took the chance of not being caught and managed to stymy the talks, but was found out by LBJ who did not choose to charge him with treason for some reason.

Richard Nixon's acts also included consolidating all the powers of the constitution within the White House and came to be known as the Imperial President. He made a fatal error when an aide mentioned Nixon taped all conversations in the White House and the Special Prosecutor quickly obtained a court order to have them turned over. Nixon transcribed them instead, but altered key phrases in an effort to lessen the seriousness of the conversations. The Supreme Court forced him to eventually turn the tapes over and Nixon knew the contents spelled the ned for him. He quickly appointed Gerald Ford Vice-President and planned his exit which occurred in August, 1974, with his resignation. The full extent of his crimes has taken years to fully comprehend, but recent revelations of foreign governments giving him direct illegal campaign contributions, laundered money coming in from the Bahamas, and illicit weapons purchases were part of his illegal legacy. Indeed, he is one of the most crooked presidents this nation has ever endured and over 25,000 more Americans died in Vietnam as a result of his tampering with the Paris Peace Talks.

Mark Felt had a moral imperative to topple this man before he implemented plans to completely take over the United States through an expanded COINTELPRO (counterintelligence program) of monitoring all citizens through wiretaps, steam opening letters, surveillance and continuous reporting. He also planned to open internment camps since the executive order imprisoning Japanese-Americans in WWII had not been suspended. Nixon viewed this camps as reeducation facilities for American in the wrong fram of mind.

Mark Felt stopped Richard Nixon from continuing a war indefinitely and suspending all laws in this nation to do what he liked with any American citizen (the Huston Plan). Though a violation of his oath, he was forced to make a decision for this nation to survive.

What you say is agreeable to me, except that I do not see him plotting at every step of the way. Maybe it is a difference of degree and not substance. Whether he flirted with Treason I just do not know.

Great article. I agree with every thing except the last sentence. Nixon got what he deserved, but how and why Felt did what he did was wrong.

You get an insightful from me.
