Mothers Against the War
Published on August 18, 2005 By Bahu Virupaksha In Politics
The lone woman, frail and vulnerable who has sacrificed her son in Bush's War in Iraq, camping outside the Presidential Ranch in Texas has caught the attention of the World. To see the most powerful man in the world cowering in fright in his ranch and sending two of his henchmen to meet with the lady is a sight that is just too good to be true. The reason why George Bush cannot see the mothe of Cassey Sheehan face to face is simple:he was highly economical with truth over the reasons for war in Iraq and he knew that the Mother will confront him over the issue. This is the Power of ONE. A lone crusade against wanton Death and Mayhem in Iraq in which a young life full of hope and promise was cut short. Of course Bush will say:We will stay the course, but Iraq is blown os far off course that we wonder whether it can really reach the shores of political and social stability.

The most horrible thing about this whole episode is the systematic attempt that the Media is making to trivilise the woman's protest. Rumours about her impending divorce are being circulated and there is even an attempt to paint her as CONNIVING tool in the hand of the anti war lobby. The fact is that a woman who has lost her onl;y son in a wasteful war in the desert of Iraq is asking questions that the men and women around Bush do not want to, or cannot answer.

It takes moral courage and extraordinary sense od moral worth to stand up and declare that the child she brought forth into the world raised and educated him, only to become a victim of a ruthless, wasteful war that cannot be won and ought not to have been waged.

More families are likely to join the protest and as it is the approval ratings of George Bush II have fallen below 33%. Even at the height of the Watergate Scandal, Nixon's personal approvasl ratings were higher. The war is finally coming home and George Bush who used his father's influence to get a posting in the National Guard in order to avoid sering in Vietnam will have to answer some tough questions in the days and months ahead.

Quit talking stupid. He HAS met her face to face, which you would know if you actually read something on your choosen subject once in a while.

Bush, Sheehans share moments
By David Henson/Staff Writer

Since learning in April that their son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, had been killed in Iraq, life has been everything but normal for the Sheehan family of Vacaville.
Casey's parents, Cindy and Patrick, as well as their three children, have attended event after event honoring the soldier both locally and abroad, received countless letters of support and fielded questions from reporters across the country.

"That's the way our whole lives have been since April 4," Patrick said. "It's been surreal."

But none of that prepared the family for the message left on their answering machine last week, inviting them to have a face-to-face meeting with President George W. Bush at Fort Lewis

CINDY SHEEHAN IN TEXAS

Surreal soon seemed like an understatement, as the Sheehans - one of 17 families who met Thursday with Bush - were whisked in a matter of days to the Army post and given the VIP treatment from the military. But as their meeting with the president approached, the family was faced with a dilemma as to what to say when faced with Casey's commander-in-chief.

She is a tool of the anti-war movement. The left should be ashamed of their behavior.

Actually more families have condemned her. Even her own family doesn't agree with her. I heard this morning people are coming to remove their children's names from her list because they don't support her.

The power of one?

When she was sitting at home, she was the power of one... you never heard of her, didn't care about her, as far as you knew, she didn't exist.

Then she stood in front of a camera. The press told you to love her, respect her and join in her cause.

She is "a power of one" for her cause about as much as Mickey Mouse was a power of one for Disneyland.

Bahu, what about the mother whose son sacrificed himself for a noble cause in the deserts of Iraq, and who supports the war and the President who ordered it?

What about her power? When are you and the media going to broadcast her story, and praise her integrity and commitment?

If, as you imply, mothers of dead soldiers are the ne plus ultra of foreign policy, then why do you only pay attention to the ones who agree with you?

"frail and vulnerable"? I'm sorry... that's not the Cindy Sheehan that's ranting on MY television screen.

on Aug 18, 2005
she sacrificed nothing. Her son served in the interests of the country. Plus, it has been widely report now that she is pretty much a kook. And you?

"The power of one" generated only 200 people at the Crawford chapter of the "Nationwide Vigil... just 1,000 in the Twin Cities in Minnesota; and a mere 200 in Hackensack, NJ...

In Washington DC, 300 people came out to demonstrate in Support of the War.

One Iraq War vet put it pretty well:

"If they don't want to support it, they don't have to support it," said Iraq war veteran Kevin Pannell, who had both legs amputated after a grenade attack last year in Baghdad. "That's the reason I lost my legs."

So Bahu, which "power of one" are you talking about, the Mother who lost her son and accuses Prs. Bush of murder, or the vet who lost his legs and celebrates the freedom represented by both sides... and wants to see the same for Iraqis?

Rosa Parks began the Civil Rights Movement and She was the POWER OF ONE. You do not have to agree, but the fact is she is speaking out against a futile needless war that has caused mayhem in Iraq.

Rosa Parks didn't call other Black people names. Cindy Sheehan consistently throws insults at other mothers who have lost sons and daughters in Iraq. To compare Cindy Sheehan to Rosa Parks is absolutly insulting to Rosa Parks.

Sheehan only speaks for Sheehan... and those who are bankrolling her activities.

I'll agree with that.

Cindy Sheehan frail? Please. You seem to be romanticising the situation a bit and ignoring the facts.

"but the fact is she is speaking out against a futile needless war that has caused mayhem in Iraq."

Yes indeed. And we all know that Iraq was not mayhem before. The mass graves have presumably been caused by too much peace and civility.

People like you are a bad argument against the war and a good reason to support it.

If you want to oppose the invasion, you should not display the ignorance that people might think causes your opposition.

If you can honestly appreciate the facts, calmly say that you realise that the war has brought relative peace to Iraq (compared to Saddam's rule) and that you are still against the war for other reasons, THEN you might have a point.

There are many reasons to be against the invasion and the changes it brought. But "it has brought mayhem to Iraq" is not one of them. "It has brought mayhem to Iraq" is ignorance of history, not an argument against the invasion.
