People Get on to their Feet

The people of New Orleans desetrve a great ovation: they have shown both grit and courage by picking up the pieces after Hurricane Katrina. The days of isolation and being marooned in buildings cut off from supplies and essential commodities does show on the faces of the survivors, but they deserve a great ovation for helping themselves and their neighbours in their hour of crisis. At a time when the Federal Government was extremely slow in responding to the challenge the people of New Orleans and the neighbouring states have extended all possible help. This is really commendable. During the Asian Tsunami on December 26, 2004 we witnessed something similar. The reluctance on the part of the Bush Administration to offer help is surprising. It can onlyn be explained by thinking of the Ideological orientation of the New Right that emphasises the withdawal of the Government.

The images on CNN are haunting: National Guards sailing in motor boats in what were roads a few days back carrying guns. There has been a widely reported incident that 5 survivors were shot in a particular incident. I wonder why this happened. Is it like de Menses killing in London or was trhere a real reason.

Asian countries have alot of exprience dealing with such disasters and the USA must seek the help from every quarter. The scale of the suffering is too lare and the loss of life is estimated to run into a few thousands. Antibiotics, vaccines and clean drinking water are the main requirements at this hour. The American Pharmasceutical Companies must comre forward to increase production and make drugs available.

Yes, the people do deserve a great ovation...

It's too bad you chose to make a pathetic political statement in lieu of that ovation.

If that is your idea of praise to those who are rising and will rise above, keep up the insults, they're the only thing that mean anything and even they are pathetic. I wonder, when you tell your mother you love her, do you follow it with a slap across her face, because that's the kind of "ovation" you just vomited on the people who are rising, and will, rise above... it's too bad you will never rise above the babbling infant you are.

I am sorry that you should think so. I have said in clear terms that the people of New Orleans are the real heroes and they have have faced the days of uncerainity with courage. I have only critisised President Bush and his neoconmen who were so slow to respond and their response has been tardy.

I'm just saying it would have been a more heartfelt tribute if it was just a tribute. The anti Bush rhetoric was not only extraneous to the point, but diluted the ovation.
