War without objectives

The Bush White House has let it be known to the world at large that though the Iraq Stusy Group had called for negotiations with Syria and Iran, the strategy of the Bush regime is to "surge"troops in Ieaq. What on earth does this mean.

There are two options only. On the one hand it means that there will be more American troops on Iraqi soil and therfore more casualities. Instead of saying that troop strength is to be increased the Bushmen have mangaled the English language and term it "surge". This neologism has the same taste as the other term made infamous by the Bush Administration--extra ordinary rendition. Illegal transportation of people without due process violating all canons of international law was termed extraordinary rendition. Like George Orwell rightly said nearly 50 years age, every totalitarian regime twists and distorts language in order to hide the truth from the very people they ostensibly serve.

Thus we have surge in troop levels. How is this great "surge" going to change the military fortunes on the ground. Not a word. The embedded media, the free press, mouth this innane phrase as if Bush and the Bushmen have come out with an eath shaking new plan.

Surge or no surge the US is stuck in Iraq and the judicial murder of Saddam Hussein will not make things better.

Saddam Hussein was not murdered, he was executed for his crimes. Just as the others here you offer no solutions, just the constant complaining.

"surge" actually has to do with the limited time scope of the troop increase, but thanks for playing.

So to answer your unasked question...Yes the sh*t is about to hit the fan! There will be more bodies, but not so many of the American troops I think!

I have already answered this several times. Saddam was a PoW captured by the US Army/Marines at Tikrut and as such the US is responsible for trying himm under Internatinal Law. You can pretend that the quisling regime at the Green Zone represents the Iraq people but that is certainly not the case.

I was trying to explain that the choice of the word "surge" to describle the policy of increasing the troop l;evels on the ground begs too many questions and therefore obsfucates the reality of what is happening in Iraq. I do understand English though when I type I strike the wrong keys.

Answering doesn't make you correct.  Saddam was tried by the Iraqi government for his crimes, and executed.  Amazing how someone could care so much about someone like Saddam.

What I get from this statement is that it is ok to ignore the laws of the host country we helped established? Why is it that your supposed solutions include breaking the law in order to obey the laws YOU want to follow. As a former member of the military I was instructed on the laws of war. Once the war is over the winning nation, that would be the USA, it is that nations responsibility to return all POW's to their home nation. If we wish to charge Saddam we could keep him longer but we don't have to. The war in Iraq is over he was returned to his home nation. The home nation, the losers, asked us to hold their high value prisoners. We did as asked. He was tried by his nation not ours, the verdict was properly arrived at and the sentense executed by the home nation, not the USA.

you complain that we went in without provacation, that there was no threat. We take a hands off approch with Saddam and you complain that we should have imposed our will on the nation you think we should not be involved in. Make up my mind which side you are on so I can figure out just how crazy you are.

According to the US constitution, the Congress alone has the right to make war and declare peace. Where is trhe peace treath that is said to have brought the hostilities to abn end. In fact US did not declare war, it just sent its army in and seized an independent country on a false pretext. And handed Saddam Hussein to his enemies with whom the USA has an alliance of convienience.

WRONG! See we do not have to declare war...we have "other" options in this country. Such as "[edit] Military engagements authorized by Congress"

And yet "another" lie. Why don't you knock off the anti-American attitude? This is just another episode of you really don't know what you're talking about.

A stament of fact not an "anti American" attitude as you seem to imply.

I think you are taking a giant step toward distorting not only the US Constitution but also US history.

What on earth does this mean

well ya see, the enemy has been using insurgents to do a lot of evil insurging. so we're gonna beat em at their own game and turn things around 180º by sending 20,000 surgents surging right back at them blood-crazed heathens.

once our surgents get to surging full tilt, hell, we may just decide to take it to the next level and do some good old-fashioned resurgin on their asses too.
