A Stalemate is on Hand

The news from Iraq is getting messier by the day. The American public was told that once the elections are held peace and quiet will descend on Iraq. Those opf us who have been follwing that story knew better. Now after 150,000 Iraqi lives destroyed, billions of dollars worth of infrastructure destroyed, nearly 2000 US soldiers killed in action and the golbal image of the USA is tatters it is time to reflect on the whole issue. The neo conmen who led the country to war underestimated the power of the Iraqi Resistance. They were not aware that in1922-24 when the British administered Mesopotamia as part of its maNDATED TERRITORY there was hell in store for them at a time when the Iraqi civil society was far less developed than it is today. There is no way this war can be won. Luttwak is perfectly right when he says that USA must disengage itself from Iraq. Disengagement is not retreat and must not be perceived that way. In the last week alone Bagdad has seen the death of nearly 550 civillians in car bombs and other acts of violence targetted against Iraqi s.

A disturbing trend is that the troops are not being rotated. This means that after a tour of duty a soldier who could look forward to spending time with his wife and children can no longer do so. The morale of troops will be affected and more importantly even the top brass of the US army is admitting that the war is bearing down heavily on troop morale. Gen Raggis was chashiered from the US army for telling the truth.

At this rate the dreaded draft will be introduced and that is the only way the present level of American engagement can be maintained. As for as the Iraqis taking over the security operations just forget it. The Iraqis are nowhere close to reaching the target. AT THE FIRST SIGN OF GUNNFIRE THE iRAQI FLEES AND THE FEW who stand and fight find that they are usually overlooked for rewards which is cornered by the staff officers close to the Americans. Moreover the level of Intellegence of the Iraqi resistance is improving. This spells danger.

I saw a political cartoon the other day featuring a news reporter talking into a mic, that said:

"The American war effort in Iraq is bogged down with free elections, open markets, a country with it's own government and army and electricity."

Seems that even some of the media is turning on the axis and seeing things in a better light.

Try again, Bahu.

I agree RW, try again bahu, watch pbs, they actually show the GOOD things happening in iraq, watched a show on it the other day on efforts to restore water access to a neighborhood, and ya know what, they did it, and ya know what, iraqi's were happy, and ya know what, no on shot at them...the "disgruntled" iraqi's were friendly with them...

If you listen to the MSM you would think Iraq is in total choas, the U.S. economy is in a depression, and....wait that sounds just like a liberal.

True the elections have been held and a govt formed. Now the violence has escalated to a level never before seen. It is just futile to say that disgruntled elements are behindthe car bombs. The fact is that Iraqi nationalism has come out of the bottle and it is unlikely that peace will be restored in a hurry. The Iraqis know that the Us economy and tax-payer will not be able to sustain the losses beyon this year. Then what happens. Further, the situation is geting from bad to worse in Lebanon. Hetre the Syria maintained some semblance of order. With Syrian troops out the fighiting ios all set to begin.

--But peace in iraq is achievable, and democracy is becoming reality...What i never got is why get concerned over our natl. debt, we will always be in debt....alwyas...i think if some want to get the debt cut then lets call on all those countries who owe us money...make them pay up or we cut them off (of money,support,etc...) As for Lebanon, i have a pen pal in lebanon and he says that it is actually a lot better than thought, yes there has been violence, between hezbellah and pro-democracy factions...but getting syria out was definantly needed.....

Have you bothered reading any of shadowar's and evorg's posts here in recent weeks?

It appears you are either woefully uninformed or wilfully disregarding all evidence or news that conflicts with your preconceived notions.

Cheers,
Daiwa

I believe you'll find it's the latter, not the former.

Those are the posts with no responses. That's because they don't know how to respond to good news.

This is exactly the kind of nastiness I was referring to, drmiler, in another thread. You don't debate issues. You just insult the poster. I will continue to point this out to you every time you do it. I'm going to be JU's new unofficial hall monitor.

Now, back to our regular programming.

And you will be ignored! Have fun! And BTW..... this is NOWHERE near as nasty as dabe's junk! So maybe you should grow up a little. And you should most certainly stay out of other peoples arguements.

I completely agree with Bahu. I see it as a kind of baby steps. For every step forward in Iraq (schools, elections, ??), there are two steps backwards. The right wing spin machine only posts the forward steps, while completely ignoring the backward steps.

I consider the backward steps to be the predominant steps, because of a few reasons:
1. We are no safer now than before the US invasion of Iraq, which was one goal.
2. The Iraqi and American death toll and casualties keep climbing and climbing with no end in sight.
3. The Iraqis are experiencing as much death, chaos and turmoil, if not more, than before the US invasion.
4. Congress and Bush keeps cutting benefits to soldiers, while providing increasing amounts of bribes for new enlistees. They seem to be front ending the benefits at the expense of the returning soldiers.
5. The cost to maintain this invasion keeps going up and up, with no end in sight. In fact, Bush said that the oil from Iraq would pay for this and it would not be the American taxpayers' responsibilities. Well, he lied.
6. Our country is as divided, if not more so, than before Bush took office.
7. An American officer training Iraqis has stated that he can trust only 25% of his Iraqi enlistees, maybe, if he's lucky and it's a good day. These are not good percentages, and do not portray the US as winning any hearts and minds of Iraqis.
8. Most Iraqis want the US out of their country. We have overstayed our welcome, if indeed we even had one to begin with.

And again, Are you the only person here allowed to step into others' arguments? I think not. You start throwing stones, you better watch your own glass house. I don't care if you're swearing or not. You still just continually insult people you don't agree with, and I am just going to point it out every time I come across it.

Have a nice day.

Point it out all you want. Just don't get nasty with it. You get nasty and I'll slap you down hard just like I did dabe when she did. And the line you quoted? Show me where in that sentence where I insulted you. You have been told by others the same basic things that I said. But I don't see you jumping on their backs.

Oh and have a "lousy" day!
